Born on September 9, 1955, in the picturesque town of Sahibganj, Jharkhand, India. Sanjay Kumar Bhartia’s artistic journey is deeply rooted in spirituality, heritage, and over five decades of dedicated self-innovation.
During his visits across West Bengal and Rajasthan in mid 1970s, he drew profound inspiration from the rich cultural heritage, intricate architectural carvings, and regal havelis of India. Driven by a vision to express complex narratives through an entirely original medium, he pioneered Live Wire Art-a rare,technique of sculpting intricate, three-dimensional line art using fine copper wire hand-stitched directly onto heavy substrate board.
Expert Validation & RecognitionThe originality structural integrity,and artistic merit of Live Wire Art have been examined, inspected, and approved by expert commitee from the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), Kolkata-the esteemed body operating the world’s largest network of science centers and museums under a single administrative umbrella.
The Medium & Self-Innovated MethodologyHaving received no formal training from any art school or institute, Sanjay’s technique is entirely self-developed through painstaking effort and continuous innovation:
Pure Hand Precision: Executed strictly without assistants, pencils, drawing tools, brushes, or adhesives, every piece is formed using only scissors, tweezers, pin holers, and soft-touch finger shaping.
850 GSM Substrate Board: The wire form is mounted onto a heavy-duty 850 GSM Cotton & Paper Pulp Board, providing a rich, textured foundation that structurally supports the metallic relief.
Mastery of Copper: Utilizing fine copper wires ranging from 16 to 33 gauge in various hues, as well as hand-twisted single and multi-color strands, the artwork achieves dynamic depth, texture and unique light reflection.
Thermal Engineering: Using a specialized "stapler principle" technique, the shaped wire is hand-stitched onto the board. To protect the form against seasonal thermal expansion and contraction, each wire shape is hand-beaded and tied at critical tension intervals.
